Rich Dad or God Dad?

Do you believe money works for those who chose Jesus as their master?

Whose principles do you apply when it comes to money management: “Rich Dad” or “God Dad” Principles?

Recently, I was re-reading the ground breaking concept of Robert Kiyosaki in one of his Rich Dad Poor Dad books titled “The Cashflow Quadrant” where he mentioned that most people on the left side of the quadrant (employees and the self- employed) do not attain financial freedom because they think like his “Poor dad”.

He proceeded to say: those on the right side of the quadrant (business owners and investors) think like his “Rich dad” and often attain financial freedom.

Although I admired his sound and reasoned ideas, I felt that, just like many other financial experts, he left out something very important: What “God Dad” teaches us about money.  He seemed to have ignored the fact that

Money also works for those who choose Jesus as their master.

Although I am a big fan of Robert Kiyosaki, I expected him to recognize that his Rich Dad somehow obeyed some of God’s timeless principles to attain his financial freedom.

Today, many contemporary books have been written on the subject of money and profit making more than ever before; some of which are helpful and most of which are incomplete because they lack God’s principles.

When it comes to money issues, many Christian’s have a hard time reconciling worldly views with Christian views. Inasmuch as they want to maintain their godly values, they are trapped in the dilemma of choosing worldly views while respecting godly virtues.

The Bible is full of information on how we can handle our money. In fact,

There is more in the Bible about money than any other subject you can imagine.

Jesus Himself taught about the subject of money, wealth and riches in His earthly ministry more than any other subject. He knew that the way we manage our money determines the condition of our heart.

Business is more about attitude than just skills. It is your attitude towards money that determines your financial freedom.

Today, there are so many self-made Christian billionaires more than ever before.  Truett Cathy, a self-made billionaire and founder of Chick-Fil-A quotes;

As Christians, we have an obligation to abide by the principles of the Bible. I believe no amount of training and experience can teach what a matter of character is ultimately. Businesses are not dishonest or greedy, people do. Thus, a business successful or not is merely a character of its leadership.”

God has a better way on how He wants you to handle your money. His principles seem hard and slow to produce results but they are timeless, priceless and surest.

Understand that it is God who gives the ability to produce wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). Having this basic understanding of financial stewardship is a short-cut path to success.

Money is God’s idea, not man’s idea.

If you ever get entangled with contradictory views on how to handle money, it will be wise to turn to Scripture. One thing I know for sure is that God never fails.
